In order to get everything we can out of our sport, it's a wonderful idea to get better at our talents, use decent equipment and adhere to decent safety methods.

Furthermore, according to the location you are skiing or riding, you need to maintain awareness of Mother Nature. If you have ever spent some time in the back-country, then you are aware that things can get ugly in no time. So we should be as organized as we can be. Therefore, the remaining portion of this article has to do with learning how to do our sport better and with more talents, and also we might add in some advice on safety into the mix.

If snow levels are at or near their highest avoid skiing near trees. Asphyxiation and hypothermia claim at least one life each year. Yes, unfortunately, some people are not aware of what are called, tree wells. These are common in high country areas like in colorado where snow levels are normally deep. These tree wells occur over time with the buildup of a great deal of snow at the base of trees. The low hanging branches prevent the snow near the tree from packing. Tree wells can be quite deep, infact deep enough to swallow an average person by a few feet. The skier typically falls in head first. The snow is so loose that it's difficult to move without sinking more.

Don't laugh at the idea of a good quality snowboard wrist guard. New snowboarders usually don't know this but snowboarding can be very dangerous for the wrist; broken ones happen more than you'd imagine. If you stop to think about it, it will make sense because if you fall, your natural reaction to that is to reach out in an attempt to brace for impact. You are also able to modify your falling style by learning how to use your knees (which will be encased in kneepads), your forearms and putting your hands into fists in an attempt to break your fall.

For board riders and even skiers who are just beginning, be wise and learn some lessons before you just get out there and rip it up. Learn from a very experienced buddy or a professional instructor. This is definitely one of the sharpest moves you can ever make. Additionally, keep in mind that you want to learn the correct way in the beginning, because if you end up not, you have the possibility of setting yourself up for a dangerous situation because you could realistically be attempting a maneuver incorrectly.

And doing it the wrong way can get you hurt.

Everybody knows that it is impossible to prevent every single possible injury if you go snowboarding or skiing. Just like all of the other sports, these have inherent injuries that are associated with them.

It typically only depends on whether you are riding or just skiing. If you're out in the back-country, then you need to take extra precautions for obvious reasons. If something happens you won't have help nearby. If you are riding or skiing by yourself, which is a terrible idea, then you are really all alone and putting yourself under unnecessary risks. Before you go out, plan where you will go and what you will do out there."
